  Probable effect of GST on LEGO
 
The way I see it, Lego SHOULD decrease in cost by about 10%. This is due to the way the GST is worked: Currently, each set is imported by LA. This is then sold to the retailer with 22% wholesale sales tax. The RRP is then 40% on top of this price. (...) (25 years ago, 27-Apr-00, to lugnet.loc.au)

(...) this was more a general/wha's happening type thingie. I'm going to be checking the 'big five' every week from now on and post stock levels etc. Some of the sales have almost snuck past us (maybe a good thing). It's interesting the W4K/K-Mart (...) (25 years ago, 26-Apr-00, to lugnet.loc.au)

I'm not too sure about that being the last of the sales till the end of the financial year, as we know LEGO will decrease in price with GST, I think most of the larger stores will try and clear their stocks before the price drops[1]. (...) Nup, not attractive enough. 7151 is not a $87.95 set, it's not even a $65.33 set. It's a $50 set at RRP, *then* let's start talking sales! (...) That's me out of the running then.
