PS: Interesting bit of US tax triva (This may be depressing for some of our
friends from higher taxing countries.). In the US there are taxes at the
Federal and state levels. In Alaska, which has hugh Oil income, rather than
paying taxes, the residents get a check (a portion of the Oil revenue). (This
may not be true anymore)
My overall personal rate of taxation is about 30-35% of Gross income as opposed
to nearly double that in some places. And let's not even get into how cheap it
is to own a house in the US

| It may be cheap to own a house in SOME places in the US, but others are insane. In my area, unless I'm willing to deal with stray bullets occasionally, the cheapest I will find a 2BR house that doesn't need a TON of work is over $400K, and nearing (...)
