I'd recommend lugnet.lego.shop.announce (or just lugnet.lego.shop -
though that might invite discussion about LEGO shopping avenues.
Hmm, I just had an idea. Set one or more lugnet.lego.xyz.announce
groups, which only TLC can post to. Then have a sister lugnet.lego.xyz
group where anyone can post. To make it a little easier on the TLC
employees, automatically cross-post lugnet.lego.xyz.announce postings to
lugnet.lego.xyz, and set follow-ups there. This would make it trivial to
find the wheat among the chaff (just pop into the .announce group
instead of the group above it), yet allow follow-up discussion to flow
naturally. If a TLC employee wants to respond to something in
lugnet.lego.xyz which they feel is important that everyone see, they can
easily add the .announce group to the posting also.
Groups which I could see in this vein:
lugnet.lego.shop - discussion about shopping through TLC owned or
franchised businesses (I don't think they have any franchises yet, but
might as well put it in the charter and then if they ever do have them,
the charter need not change)
lugnet.lego.contests - discussion about contests being run by TLC
lugnet.lego.promo - discussion about promotions (this one may not see
much traffic from TLC)
lugnet.lego.legoland - discussion about the theme parks
lugnet.lego.direct - discussion about other ways in which TLC is
interacting directly with customers, a place to talk about TLC providing
stuff for events, a place to talk about things like the Train Summit,
etc.
lugnet.lego.new-products - a place to talk about upcoming and current
sets etc. (this would be where you would ask questions about the
Bionicle masks for example)
lugnet.lego.history - a place to ask about old stuff (we haven't seen
much from TLC in this area yet but I'd LOVE to see someone at TLC go
back and dig into their records to answer a "Dear Gary" type question.
This would also be a nice group to focus that kind of discussion in even
if it is mostly fan to fan.
The last one points out one advantage I see with this structure. It
doesn't limit fan to fan communication, yet allows an easy way to hear
TLC's official wisdom. My list of groups is just a starting place, I
could see more groups, I could see fewer (though I would like to see
lugnet.lego.shop separate). If lugnet.lego.shop.announce replaces
lugnet.announce.lsahs, I would also allow the folks allowed to post to
lugnet.announce.lsahs to post to lugnet.lego.shop.announce so that the
weekly Shop at Home specials can continue to be easily found, yet be
posted by a fan (until such a time as TLC decides to start posting them
themselves).
Cross posted to lugnet.lego.direct to give TLC employees the opportunity
to share any thoughts they might have on this.
