Are you going to try out?

So what do you think? Are you going to try out for the spot in the master builder search ((URL) you are, let me know! What do you think about the idea overall? Jake --- Jake McKee Community Liason LEGO Community Development (21 years ago, 8-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general) !

Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) too much to make it my day job. I know what happened to my computer hobby when I got into working with them ;) Besides, I'm not Masterbuilder material. Not yet :) OTOH it would be a cool thing to do, despite the above. (...) It's pretty cool. (...) (21 years ago, 8-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Are you going to try out?

Really cool idea. But since I just moved OUT of CA due to the high living cost (the house we'll be building in FL will cost 1/3 of that in the SF Bay area, but will probably double in value in the next 10-20 years due to the local building boom (...)   Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) I would, seeing as though I've been unemployed for over a year now and really REALLY need a job right now (I've got a wedding to pay for at the end of July... and NO income :( ). And working, doing almost anything, for the LEGO company would (...) (21 years ago, 8-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) Do this in Denmark and I'll be there! I think it is a great idea to find talented builders this way. Martin (21 years ago, 8-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) Well, no AI Atlanta? Besides, make too much on main job, and having way too much fun with my second job... Scott Lyttle (21 years ago, 8-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) I'm going to try out...it sounds like a different and fun challenge! The idea is a good one, too...it'll be neat to see who shows up and even neater to see (or if I'm lucky, be part of)the build off. Joe Meno .space paparazzi! (21 years ago, 8-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) Can you promise a living wage to the person that wins it? Not that I think I could ever win it - I build well, but I don't build *quickly*. Probably 99% of the people here on LUGNET think it would be a dream job, but unfortunately reality (...) (21 years ago, 8-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) I can say with some certainty that I won't be trying out. For me, there's no way I would live in California! (sorry californians...I don't mean it as an insult, it's just a personal thing with me). I think it would be interesting to know what (...) (21 years ago, 8-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) was thinking of trying out anyway just for the experience. My concern is that it might take a spot from someone who actually COULD take the job and that might not be very fair. I dunno. Jake? I think it's a neat idea even if it's a publicity (...) (21 years ago, 8-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) I think the crew at Carlsbad don't get this as much as the people in Enfield. I've spent a morning at the model shop in Enfield, at the time they were building several hundred (several thousand?) copies of 'toucan sam' for a breakfast cereal (...)   Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) Jake, This has been a dream of mine since the first time I read about Master builders in one of the earliest club magazines. I am not only trying out for the fun of saying I did so, or the challenge of building something amazing in 45 minutes, (...) (21 years ago, 8-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) It's a job I'd enjoy but, like others who've said the same about themselves, I don't think I'm up in the "Master Builder" class. Granted, I have the advantage of living in San Diego and I'm thinking in an "Aw, why not give it a try?" mode. Tom (...) (21 years ago, 8-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general, FTX)

Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) Great idea! Too bad it means moving to the USA :( Otherwise it would have been PERFECT for me, as I'm atm exploring other career paths. (21 years ago, 8-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) If it were closer, I would, just for the experience, and the AFOL retirement home bragging rights <crotchety voice> "I remember back in ought three, when I was a finalist in Phoenix..."</crotchety voice> But that being said, I doubt I would (...)   Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) I'm seriously considering it. The nearest location to where I am is Las Vegas - and I always enjoy trips out there anyway. I'm unsure if I've got the 'chops' for it, but I think I've got a good visual and structure sense, and came up with a (...) (21 years ago, 8-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) I like the idea. I like the idea for two reasons: 1) because I like the fact that LEGO is reaching out to the general public and that almost anyone(1) has a shot at this. It's more or less a level playing field. 2) because it opens up at least (...) (21 years ago, 8-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) I think they try to sort them out as they best can before you get called to the building contest. /Tobbe (21 years ago, 9-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) No. I've always said, If I got the chance to work for the Lego company I'd prefer to be in a non building position. Why? It'd ruin my hobby I'm afraid. Also, I can't leave the Pacific NW. No, if I got the chance to work with the Lego company (...) (21 years ago, 9-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Are you going to try out?

Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) WIRED.COM has an article on the search for a new Master Builder. ¬ The article includes quotes from the original announcement, and from Russell Clark and myself, Aaron Sneary.   Re: Are you going to try out?

(...) All very nifty, but... I hope that LEGO turns the LEGOMasterBuilder.com site on soon. It still says "LEGOMasterBuilder.com will launch on October 13, 2003" but today's the 14th. Given all the hype from the likes of Wired, expect some outraged (...) (21 years ago, 14-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Are you going to try out?

Well, given the fact that a lot of people (some who read LUGNET, some who do not) have been asking me about the whole Master Builder Search thing, I figure I will go ahead and chime in. While I am quite flattered that many friends and AFOLs said (...) (21 years ago, 16-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Are you going to try out?

I'd try out for the same reasons I'd run for Governor of California - to say I tried, even though I know I'm exceedingly under-qualified.. I think it's a great idea, and I'd love to work for LEGO.. But unless you plan on working for 60+ hours a week (...) (21 years ago, 29-Oct-03, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)
