How much (%) of your collection do you use at one time?

I've been feeling a little guilty...

I have no idea how big my Lego collection is, a guess is maybe 20,000 pieces
or so.  I usually work on one project at a time; maybe a large spaceship,
castle, or something.   But my mode is usually one project at one.
Currently, that project is a town (multiple structure, but still one
project).   So far it's used maybe 4,000 pieces.

So fully 80% of my Lego sits unused!   How terrible!

Maybe my piece counts are off, but I know the conclusion is right:  at any
one time, the vast vast majority of my pieces are sitting in bins.    I'm
imagining everyone has this problem, but my concience will feel better one
you tell me so.

(...) I do the same thing, but right now I am at my worst. I am only using about 2% of my collection because I am doing a large scale minifig custimization project right now. When I am being normal though, I only use about 10% at any given time, but (...) (25 years ago, 23-Jul-99, to lugnet.general)

Greg, I have roughly over 100,000 pieces plus, Gary Istok has I think 500,000+ or so, and I know some other people have more. Don't worry about it. I use maybe 0.5% (roughly 500 bricks) if that many. I have all of my Lego's sitting around most of (...) (25 years ago, 23-Jul-99, to lugnet.general)

Don't feel to bad, I've got quite a few things built and displayed right now, and I'm working a bunch of other things, unlike you I do 3 or 4 or even sometimes 5 projects at a time... I'd have to say that about 99% of my collection is unused.. that (...) (25 years ago, 23-Jul-99, to lugnet.general)

Considering half of my sets aren't even opened, and I have a lot of them, I don't think you should feel guilty. I don't. As people are pointing out, its only possible to use so many pieces at one time due to space, project size, time permitted for (...) (25 years ago, 23-Jul-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) I'm about 13,000 pieces, and I'm using about 30% right now. My town is very small: only 6 buildings, but I have my own train station, and I'm working on the train. But I try to have more than one project going because sometimes I think too (...) (25 years ago, 24-Jul-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) My collection is more or less the same. Sorting is not a hell still ;-) but it starts to be close to this. Usually I build on my bed and need to do cleaning every time :-( . I have not so much space to display my MOC (usually I assemble (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jul-99, to lugnet.general)
