Brickshelf back up (at least temporarily)

(URL) Brickshelf will be shutting down on 2007/07/31. Please save your files to your computer. Jennifer www.peeron.com (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general) !!

Top Ten Reasons Why Kevin Loch Should be Vilified

10. He didn't back up all of my image files for me 9. He never returns my calls 8. I don't know how to pronounce "maj.com." Madge? Mage? Modge? 7. What kind of slacker quits after just twelve short years? 6. Now where am I supposed to post my 57,214 (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general) !!

  Re: Brickshelf secured?

(...) Not anymore... (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Brickshelf.com – A Possible Solution

(...) Marc-- Sounds like a good idea. Heck, it sounds like a great idea at first blush. However... TLG is not in the website business. (Nor should they be.) They are working with NetDevil to create an MMOG (or whatever they call it); and their (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general, FTX)

  Re: Brickshelf.com – A Possible Solution

(...) Brickshelf, Lugnet, BrickLink, Classic-Castle, Classic-Space, 1000steine, BrickJournal, BrickFest, ILTCO/NMRA, Ldraw and LEGO CAD Tools... (well known typical AFOL "products") they all participate to bring people into the hobby - not only (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general, FTX)

Re: Brickshelf and the AFOL community

(...) No, it's not just you, Jake. I do it with fear and trepidation. But want to be loyal to Kevin and what he has done for the AFOL community, if that indeed is what a migration means. If we are a nuisance, then I would by all means go to a (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general, FTX)

  10181 Eiffle Tower

Just finished building 10181. It is a great piece. However, it is rather flimsy which seems to be a continuing problem with the large new sets. What else I saw was a slight variation in the shade of the bricks. Even within the same kind of brick I (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general)

Re: Brickshelf and the AFOL community

(...) I also agree until we find out something from Kevin, moving files, correcting links, and stressing over lost pictures is all worthless, we all just need to take a breath and wait to hear something. It is obvious that Brickshelf has evolved (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general, FTX)

  Re: Brickshelf.com – A Possible Solution

(...) You're absolutely right, Jake, they're quite different. I was just pointing out that TLG probably spends about as much money on that spread as it would running something like Brickshelf. Do you think a "LEGOshelf" gallery site would be a (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general, FTX)

  Re: Brickshelf.com – A Possible Solution

(...) I absolutely won't speculate about TLG intentions on this front. But I would like to point out that comparing a return to the hobby via Brickshelf and the efforts of the LEGO Magazine is an apple and oranges comparison. Those "two pages of MOC (...)   Re: Problems with Brickshelf?

(...) A bit off-topic here, but I'd hardly call Flickr a "bigbox". From their earliest days they have been a community oriented company in a way that nearly every other company around can learn from. They built a fantastic tool always keeping in (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general, lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: Brickshelf and the AFOL community

(...) No, you're not alone. (...) Same here. We're all speculating, and in the dark. Without any word from Kevin, everything is just second-guessing. I would not be comfortable using Maj.com for anything until reading something from Kevin about (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general, FTX)

  Re: Brickshelf.com – A Possible Solution

(...) You don't think Brickshelf brought a lot of people into (or back into) the hobby? How much does TLG spend to send two pages of MOC pictures to people all over the world (via the magazine)? Marc Nelson Jr. (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general, FTX)

  Re: Brickshelf.com – A Possible Solution

(...) Not yet (AFAIK...) (...) I'm not convinced by that. Didier Enjary (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general, FTX)

Re: Brickshelf and the AFOL community

(...) Am I the only one that's a bit nervous about about a mass migration to maj.com? If a mass migration happens, the maj.com bandwidth shoots through the roof and Kevin is once again facing overwhelming bandwidth costs. If this happens, does he (...)   Re: Brickshelf.com – A Possible Solution

(...) The obvious reason to resurect brickshelf is the 10+ years of AFOL content that is now gone. I would gladly donate to any effort to bring the brickshelf content back online in a way that links to existing blogs/posts/etc are preserved. Even if (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general, FTX)

Re: Brickshelf and the AFOL community

(...) And it appears that the mass migration is on! If you go to maj.com, its recent pages are filled with LEGO MOCs... (...) Doood. Your problem, J-1, is that you are old-school AND net-wiz-bang:-) J-2 (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general, FTX)

  Re: Problems with Brickshelf?

(...) But you are a wiz-kid, Jake, and I am but a simple, old-timer:-) (...) Yeah, that I'll admit, but I never really looked for things past just browsing the recent pages. What I liked was the one-site shopping, and that it was an AFOL site, too. (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general, FTX)

  Re: Problems with Brickshelf?

(...) Hum.. you mean you never backed up any of the stuff you uploaded to brickshelf? shame, shame, shame... I backup and make a backup of the backup just in case. Learned my lesson a while back when I lost 90% of my data to 1) Back up WEEKLY! 2) (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general)

Re: Brickshelf and the AFOL community

(...) I completely agree with John's last point - I'd hit the 'recent updates' link on Brickshelf a couple times a day. My own biggest problem is that the images I had on Brickshelf are going to be difficult to replace - the computer they were (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.general, FTX)
