No it will still be around. In the future LEGO may not be owned by Kjeld and Gunhild anymore (Godtfred Kirk Christiansen’s 2 surviving children), however it will still be around.

There’s too much value in the brand name. A future owner may move production to China or Vietnam or India. It seems that everything else is ending up there, a loss for Europe, North America and Australia.

The future offset may be cheaper prices, but less in the way of quality.

I will make an idle observation (from way out in left field)...

The market for LEGO seems to be soft (beyond description) at the moment. My BrickLink store is experiencing one of the slowest Januarys that I have ever seen. I saw signs of this back in September (2006) and again in December (2006). January (thus far) makes those two months seem like a nice spring day. I sell to a somewhat different group of people than TLC does. Most of my buyers are looking for one or two sets to finish out a collection/theme. These items would be sets that TLC has long since sold out of. If TLC is seeing a similar slowdown (as I am), I understand very clearly what is prompting these changes. The world of toys is changing rapidly, and there is only so much mind-share to go around. LEGO will likely survive, but I think it will be somewhat different going forward.
