Awesome Dave!
This is the earliest "known" idea book I have ever seen, and the only one I've
seen with the early 1949-56 "slotted" bricks with windows/doors with "wings"
that fit into the slots.
By viewing all of the Lego parts on Page 2, (for me) it dates this book to the
first half of 1955. Starting in mid 1955 the multi-paned oldest windows/doors
(in use since 1949) were discontinued and the Esso Service accessories were
introduced.
As you all know how much I harp about the lack of variety in Lego windows
today.... well there were 14 different windows produced back then!!!! That page
2 picture shows the styles. 2 of the 3 styles look like the classic windows of
the 1956-87 era, but they are different. These windows are not (easily)
compatible with Lego of today, because of the "wings" on the sides. The shadows
on the right side are not shadows, but the wings I a talking about.
The models on pages 14 and 15 show some model with the earliest windows/doors.
Models A, D & E show the 1949-55 old Automatic Binding Bricks style windows.
Models B, C & F show the 1954-56 tall classic windows with glass. Note: In 1955
clear bricks were only available as 2x2 and 2x4 macaroni bricks, and 1x1 round
bricks. Not until 1956 were regular clear bricks available for the first time.
That is why although model D looks like clear bricks, they are not. They are
just old style windows/doors.
Thanks for sharing this book Dave, it is probably the best insight into what the
early Lego 1949-56 slotted bricks and "winged" windows/doors looked like, and
the architecture one can build with them.
