I recently received a 28 page 'idea book' with the word
Byggebog on the cover.
I am told 'Byggebog' means "building book" or "manual for constructions"

The book doesn't have any date on it,
but, according to Gary Istok, it dates from 1955
when the slotted bricks,
and windows/doors with wings to fit into the slots,
were being produced.

I would love it if someone could translate the
text in the book for me.

The book can be viewed here
http://www.redshift.com/~shifflett/lego/mursten_byggebog/mursten_byggebog.html

Thanks,
Keep on bricking,
dave

(...) Awesome Dave! This is the earliest "known" idea book I have ever seen, and the only one I've seen with the early 1949-56 "slotted" bricks with windows/doors with "wings" that fit into the slots. By viewing all of the Lego parts on Page 2, (for (...) (19 years ago, 19-Sep-05, to lugnet.general)

(...) Awsome is the word! Quick n dirty translation: 1. "LEGO mursten" ~ "LEGO Building Brick" "BYGGEBOK" = "Building Book" 2. "Her er..." = "Here all the single LEGO separate parts are" 3. "Med LEGO man bygger" = "With LEGO one builds, plays and (...) (19 years ago, 20-Sep-05, to lugnet.general)

(...) I'm of absolutely no use in helping translate, but I just had to say thank you for posting this wonderful bit of history. The artwork (as much as the bricks) is what I really love about the pre-1970s LEGO ads and package inserts/instructions. (...) (19 years ago, 20-Sep-05, to lugnet.general)

(...) Dave: Sweet piece of paper. Your collection of early catalogs/idea books, etc is becoming quite impressive! The back cover shows Kjeld on the left (about 6 years old, so Gary's date seems correct) and Gunhild in the middle. The boy on the (...) (19 years ago, 20-Sep-05, to lugnet.general)
First Train Sighting in a Lego Book (1955)

(...) OK Train lovers I have good news and bad news about a train sighting in a Lego book (from Dave Shifflett), namely a 1955 Danish Idea Book. (URL) good news is this is the earliest known Lego picture with a train in it. The bad news is that it (...) (19 years ago, 20-Sep-05, to lugnet.general)
