That might be fun. I’m not sure I’ll be doing any serious “asides” before I finish the Bible (circa 2013), but when I think about what non-Biblical material would be most fun to illustrate in LEGO, I do tend to think along the lines of “famous moments in history”, or perhaps rather “little known or seldom illustrated significant moments in history”.

The thing is: with the Bible, I have one “authoritative” text that I use. I don’t consider non-Biblical accounts of the same material (e.g. the life of Jesus) when I’m illustrating. But if I were to do something like illustrating other great moments in history, I’m not sure what source or sources I would use as the basis of retelling the stories in text while illustrating them in LEGO. Different history books often provide quite different accounts of the same events, any many history books are suspect in their presentation of the facts.

Anyhow, it’s something to think about for when I need something else to illustrate next decade. :)

You could show the surviving monks carrying off the casket of St. Cuthbert, which according to legend they carried around for over 120 years before settling the casket in Durham, also in the far north of England. This is the shrine around which Durham Cathedral was built.

Yes, until I read the Diamond book, I hadn’t realized that the Viking raids kicked off with an attack on an undefended monastery. Interesting stuff.

P.S. What no Beserker minifigs? I was hoping for some frothing mouthed Vikings! :-)

I thought this guy came pretty close. :)
