Your pics would be hosted on your own site, but there could be a central site (call it BrickPics) that just shows what “feeds” have been updated. You could manually update your own XML file to show you’ve got new content.

Hmm, that’s an interesting idea. So basically, your own site would contain your images plus an XML file that provides metadata for them (description, keywords, category, etc.). You’d register the URL of your XML file with the central server just once; it would then check it periodically, and update its own database accordingly (probably including making thumbnails). So once you’re registered, you just need to upload your images and update your XML file, and everybody else finds out about it shortly.

Maybe the central site would just be links, or thumbnails of only the most current feeds, like the Brickshelf homepage. But it could be a one-stop browsing, especially if the content is subdivided into catagories.

Right, it wouldn’t be too hard to provide searching, browsing, and recent-stuff views of the data.

The central server could perhaps also assign a unique URL to each image it finds, so that if you have to move your pictures (and XML file) to a different host, URLs that go through the central server continue to work.

Best,
Joe
