Help!!
What on Earth was I thinking? A few weeks ago I looked around at all the various
tubs, cans, boxes, and other containers I have lying about, filled with various
LEGO elements, so I thought I would be smart (HA!) and inventory it...y'know,
get it "organized".
It has been a nightmare!! My hobby is turning into a ghastly chore. What I have
started to do is sort by color first, then once I have (which I haven't) emptied
the 30+ containers into the proper color, break down each color by element and
store them in either hardware drawers (like for nails, screws, that kind of
thing) or in larger bins (for the more common elements like bricks and plates).
This is taking WAAAAYYYY too much of my time and no end in sight!! Do any of you
kind folks have a solution? I am not choosy at the moment; I am seeking methods
of organization and faster sorting methods.
Your thoughts, suggestions, and moral support welcome.
- Pat Hough

Or maybe I'm just weird. Don't sort by color, it's too hard. Don't sort (...) (20 years ago, 9-Jul-04, to lugnet.general)

| (...) Sort what you need, leave the rest out. I have individual boxes for sorting bricks, plates and slopes in the basic colours. For some color/shape combinations I even splitted boxes, like in "Red slopes 45" and "Red Slopes other", or "Black (...) (20 years ago, 9-Jul-04, to lugnet.general)

| (...) I think that the sorting method varies by both taste and collection size. I used to sort specifically by shape without regard to color. Once my collection reached about 50,000 pieces or so this method of sorting began to become more trouble (...) (20 years ago, 9-Jul-04, to lugnet.general)

Emotionally this was hard to do but it served its purpose well. Now I'm at the task of unsorting my modest LEGO (...) (20 years ago, 10-Jul-04, to lugnet.general)
