The only rational I can think of for the proliferation of click hinges is
for patent reasons.  I am sure there are other reasons too.  I was really
disappointed to see click hinges on these two parts in the new train sets:
I suspect that the fact that the hinges hold their shape (i.e. can hold the
wings of a ship or whatever in some kind of "open" position working against
gravity) is another factor here.
Much more playability I suspect.
