Hello!

After four years of membership to LUGNET, I have had very little to post in the
way of creative, er...creativity.  I have noticed that LUGNET postings which get
spotlighted and get most feedback are those posts which include, obviously, a
custom LEGO creation of some sort.

Well, there's a lot of us (like me) that are interested in LEGO toys more for
collecting than for building, but still have ideas about the kinds of products
they fantasize about.  So although this post will get absolutely no attention at
all, since it includes no fancy constructions nor the genius to fabricate them
even remotely the way they exist in my mind, I regardless present to you two or
three to accidentally read this:  THE TIMES!

What a cool thing it would be if there was a line of Town sets revolving around
a particular decade, starting with the '50s.  Every year another decade would be
covered, culminating after six years with the '00s (and in seven years we'll
have hit the '10s! perfect timing!).  Maybe afterward we could start going back
to the '40s, '30s, and '20s, until we've hit the Western theme.  :o)

Bill and Mary Mini-figure would start out in 1950 as a new couple, and have kids
in the '60s, teenagers in the '70s, grandkids in the '80s, etc., etc.!  Each
decade would come with a #6000-style Idea Book (or at least a comic book) which
would tell their story.  {Too bad LEGO has a policy against stealing ideas from
fans.  Well, hire me as a consultant, dagnabbit!}

Each set has custom hairpieces for the mini-figures to reflect THE TIMES, and
imprinted tiles showing popular records, posters, and how about LEGO sets (!) of
THE TIMES as well!  The interior design of all houses, the cars, the
minifigures' outfits; everything suited for complete immersion of the decade in
question!  Don't I just WISH I had the building expertise some of you have (not
to mention an Adrain Drake-like pile of parts)!

So without further adieu; I can't build 'em, but I sure would collect 'em:

Hope you enjoyed reading all this.  It sure was fun to write.  I dearly wish I
had the creative and physical wherewithall to build all this...I truly would if
I could!  I wish more AFOL's lived near me.  I jealously read posts about LUG's
where people regularly get together...there's nothing near me in CT!

But even if there was: once again, not everyone who loves LUGNET knows how to
build!  I just love collecting.  :o)

Lots of snippage, some commentary interspersed but first... this post got my spotlight, it's an awesome post taken in total. But my comments might read like criticism, sorry about that! (...) So much for THAT theory... Number one post on LUGNET right now (if you look at top rated posts this way: www.lugnet.com) is this one, with 5 spotlights and one highlight, and sure to get more as more people see it. :-) ++Lar (21 years ago, 6-Nov-03, to lugnet.general, lugnet.town)

In the interest of space, I too have removed all of the original article. My one comment to add is to "Bring Bill and Mary back!". I've got fond memories of the "Bill and Mary Idea Book" and the online Bill and Mary World Tour. Jeff (21 years ago, 6-Nov-03, to lugnet.general, lugnet.town)

Hi, Dave. (...) These MOCs sound really cool, but I keep clicking on the descriptions and the links don't seem to work! What gives? Surely the top story on LUGNET couldn't be a post about hypothetical MOCs that don't really exist! I'll just keep (...) (21 years ago, 6-Nov-03, to lugnet.general, lugnet.town)

Neat idea, one thing though... (...) Love it! Can I pre-order #1951 & #1952 to go with the cool Ford Anglia I got in the Privet Drive HP set? Thanks for a great premise. Ted (21 years ago, 7-Nov-03, to lugnet.general, lugnet.town)
