The way we were: January, 1994 —Thomas Main
I just read through the first month of postings to rec.toys.lego (January 1994) and was amused and impressed by some of the things I read. There were many "firsts" of discussions that seem to be ongoing up to the present. I thought it might be (...) (21 years ago, 22-May-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: The way we were: January, 1994 —John P. Henderson
(...) Interesting topic. (...) ... (...) I think I first posted to rtl in 1995, although possibly 1996. (Would that mean I should have a mastadon icon?) That was my first realization that I was not alone in my hobby. I was fascinated that so many (...) (21 years ago, 22-May-03, to lugnet.general)

(...) That would make for some nice history of the online LEGO world. One question- where did you find posts so old? We're talking nine years plus there! It would be a real kick to get a look at this very early stuff. (...) It's funny how one looks (...) (21 years ago, 26-May-03, to lugnet.general)

(...) Probably Google. Here's an interesting page, regarding old usenet messages: (URL) can search all the way back to May 12, 1981.      (...) Google. Here's what would appear to be my first Usenet post: (URL) possible there could be an earlier post that I didn't sign my name to but still used this account. Hm poking around at a few other names, I see Lar++ used to run a BBS (and I'm (...) (21 years ago, 27-May-03, to lugnet.general)

(...) Heh. Here's the earliest one I could find from me: (URL) was a lack-of-anything-better handle before I felt like committing my name to public consumption. Goofy. Anyway, I'm glad to see that I've been consistent in my pro-clone views all these (...) (21 years ago, 28-May-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: The way we were: January, 1994 —Lindsay Frederick Braun
(...) I wonder how many of us can say that clone bricks dragged us into online AFOLdom? See, my first post was about clonedom too. I beat you by 19 months, but I was talking about TENTE, so I think the obscurity/time comparators are about equal. :) (...) (21 years ago, 28-May-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: The way we were: January, 1994 —Lindsay Frederick Braun
Interesting to dig around there. My first posting (though I'd been reading since the dying days of atl): (URL) It is especially embarassing because, as luck would have it, my first LEGO-related posts were about a clone brand. (TENTE) Yeah, yeah, (...) (21 years ago, 28-May-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: The way we were: January, 1994 —Eric Brok
(...) FYI, I did something like that for a short while in 1996. So it's more a sorted and annoteted snapshot than a history. See the 'Quotes' section of LEGO on my Mind, (URL) like your idea though. The good thing is, thanks to the internet's 'own (...) (21 years ago, 27-May-03, to lugnet.general)
