Volume and surface are not always tightly correlated but the Technic beam has lots more surface area. 1 - I'm assuming you actually weighed 50 of each and did the math or whatever. I have (...)    (...) Look a little bit harder. Note that the bottom studs, in a normal brick extending all the way up, are interupted by the pegholes in a technic brick. I estimate that the surface to subtract for the two holes in the brick wall and the surface to (...) (22 years ago, 6-Mar-03, to lugnet.general)
