Store managers and old sets —Jeff Stembel
Has anyone ever convinced a store (read: TRU) manager to discount discontinued sets? The reason I ask is because a nearby TRU has between 25 and 35 copies of the Technic Spaceshuttle. They are still at full price, and I don't think they've sold a (...) (25 years ago, 2-May-99, to lugnet.general)

In New Zealand here the other day, I walked into a store, saw a mint 6286 Skulls Eye Schooner, asked if that was really the price ($300 NZ = $150 US) and they came back and said I could have it for $225 NZ ($112 US). Now isn't that a (...) (25 years ago, 3-May-99, to lugnet.general)

I've found many bargains at TRU, a 6991 Monorail that was returned because it was missing a curved piece of track and two minifigs. I asked the manager what they would sell it for incomplete, she said $40.00 AUD, about $25.00 USD. Mark H. (...) (25 years ago, 3-May-99, to lugnet.general)

Tried 2 or 3 time at TRU with box that where opended and lot of shelf ware. All the manager could offer was full reembursement if part were missing. Had better luck at Zellers where I bought a paradisa set with only the top cover missing box still (...) (25 years ago, 3-May-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) Ditto for me. Though other stores seem much more willing to move on price, especially if you offer to buy all of something, as I think someone else mentioned. Ben Gatrelle (25 years ago, 4-May-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) Sometimes. You never know until you ask. Especially if you can say something like, "I'll buy them all if you give me a discount X." Or "What discount would you give me if I bought them all?". Something along those lines. Steve (25 years ago, 3-May-99, to lugnet.general)

Re: Store managers and old sets —Lindsay Frederick Braun
(...) That's what I did in the Okemos, MI Meijer. They had three Armada Flagships left about a year ago, and I said "look, you're not moving these for $25 each, I'll take 'em all for $45." To my surprise, the manager said "sure." They do have (...) (25 years ago, 3-May-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) Hmmm.. they do have over 25 of 'em. I doubt I could afford all of them at discount! ;) I'll be asking next time I go up there though, thanks! Jeff (25 years ago, 5-May-99, to lugnet.general)
