Poor Part Quality- 2x5x6 Castle Walls —John Hadd
Has anyone else busted the 6292 Enchanted Island Re-Issue, only to find the black wall has a flat, non-glossy, pitted, almost sandblasted look to the front? I was appalled to find this was the quality of the "New" part. They are unlike any other (...) (22 years ago, 4-Jun-02, to lugnet.general)

(...) All the recent castle walls have been that way, it has nothing to do with part quality. Jeff (22 years ago, 4-Jun-02, to lugnet.general)

Sounds to me like TLG is running their molds WAY past their intended lifetime in order to cut costs. It's going to bite them in the behind if they don't watch it, as Ritvik's quality is improving while Lego's is degrading. Sooner or later, even (...)         Re: Poor Part Quality- 2x5x6 Castle Walls —Richard Marchetti
(...) What are waves and mold-slump? Are these caused by old molds or by pulling the elements out of the molds before they are fully hardened or whatever? But yeah, the quality is definitely slipping -- and has been for some time. I have seen more (...) (22 years ago, 5-Jun-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.dear-lego)

(...) Edges with "flash", thin brittle plastic, can be an indicator of an aging mold (no longer closes as tightly) or just sloppy process control (machine not adjusted for present conditions.) Stringy plastic (like cotton candy) on the top of studs (...) (22 years ago, 5-Jun-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.dear-lego)

They may very well be, but that is not the case with the wall elements. They are *supposed* to be textured that way. Jeff (...) (22 years ago, 5-Jun-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Poor Part Quality- 2x5x6 Castle Walls —Lindsay Frederick Braun
(...) I went and checked some of my walls, and it does indeed seem that around 1996 or 1997 the "feel" of the walls' outer surface changes. But it's subtler than I would have expected--less gloss, more matte, but I hadn't figured it was a conscious (...) (22 years ago, 5-Jun-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Poor Part Quality- 2x5x6 Castle Walls —Jeff Stembel
(...) It isn't on all the surfaces, however, which leads me to believe it is intentional. Jeff (22 years ago, 5-Jun-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Poor Part Quality- 2x5x6 Castle Walls —John Hadd
Hmmm, Not all newer castle walls are like the ones I got. The gray corners were lighly textured and have a little gloss, the printed corners are pretty darn glossy, The Guarded Inn re-issue gray walls have a light bumby texture but still have some (...)
