Are any of you knowledgable of restrictions that would be placed on
including Lego images on a T-shirt?

IANAL ("I Am Not A Lawyer") so take this with a grain of salt, but for the
most accurate and safest answer, consult an attorney who specializes in
trademarks and trade dress and that sort of thing.  Generally, if you produced
original artwork using LEGO elements, you're probably OK.

Can I take a POV rendering of a spaceship built of Lego, and use it as
T-shirt art?

Very high probability of being OK, I would say.  As long as you don't put the
LEGO logo on the shirt or do the surrounding artwork in a style which could be
confused with the "energetic" official T-shirts.

Does any kind of credit have to be given to Lego?

Probably not.  Might be a good idea to note in the corner that the shirt is
unofficial.

Does this change if the shirts are being sold?

Probably not, but if you're walking the line between acceptable use and
unacceptable use (again, you would have to consult an attorney or ask TLG
directly to find out what's acceptable), then selling them could draw more
attention.

Is there a difference between using a model that TLG sold
as a set, and using my own?

Yes, probably.  Using a model that TLG designed is probably one small step
closer to being unacceptable than using your own model (which should be
totally acceptable).

Again, IANAL, so please don't take this a legal advice.  Consult an attorney,
or write TLG, or just make your artwork so un-LEGO-like that it couldn't
possibly cause a problem.

(...) I have a feeling that whether you are leagally allowed to use the image or not the LEGO Group would ask you not to use it. Chris (...) (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.shopping)
