  Is Lego Art, or what?

I am really bored at work today so I am taking this opportunity to ask all you LUGNET people questions which have been interesting me a bit. I spend much of my time away from work making art. I consider myself, in part, an artist. Unfortunately this (...) (23 years ago, 16-Feb-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Is Lego Art, or what?

(...) Yes. (...) Yes, by my own definition of what art is. (...) Ehh... I'm not sure what you mean. I do occasionally build things that are just pleasing shapes out of LEGO- not a representation of anything, really. But I don't usually include other (...)   Re: Is Lego Art, or what?

(...) Nope. (...) Nope. This is not to say I don't consider some other Lego creations to be artworks. Eric Harshbarger's sculptures come readily to mind as an example. (...) Only sort of. We've been known to use Lego as "miniatures" in D&D. :) (...) (...) (23 years ago, 16-Feb-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Is Lego Art, or what?

(...) Yes. (...) No. But I approach Lego from a gaming standpoint rather than an artistic one (this is not to say others aren't correct in identifying their work as art). (...) No. (...) Yes. (...) Not at the moment, but I do have a B.F.A. in (...) (23 years ago, 16-Feb-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Is Lego Art, or what?

(...) Yes. (...) But of course :) (...) Not often, but occasionally. (...) Not really-- but only because I see an artist as someone who either gets paid for it, or devotes more time to creating 'art' than I do. (...) No, though I do create (...) (23 years ago, 16-Feb-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Is Lego Art, or what?

[FUT .people] (...) Yes. (...) No, unless whatever I'm modeling is art. I do consider my POV-Ray renderings art. (...) If you count renderings... (...) Yes.   Re: Is Lego Art, or what?

(...) Yes (...) My sculptures I consider art. My space and town MOC's, not so much. The museum treads a fine line between model and artwork. I do tend to differentiate between them (I think that if I can use the creation in a game of BrikWars as (...) (23 years ago, 16-Feb-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Is Lego Art, or what?

(...) er, make that if I CAN'T use the creation in a game of BrikWars (and no, Gino, pushing the bowling pin over on top of my mech doesn't count) (...) (23 years ago, 16-Feb-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Is Lego Art, or what?

(...) Nah, I don't consider them art. (...) No. I guess I feel like I'm not an artist because too much of the medium has just been given to me (...) No. (...) No. (...) No (...) Lego is at present my only creative pursuit. (I spend the rest of my (...) (23 years ago, 16-Feb-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Is Lego Art, or what?

(...) My wife has made things that involve photos and parts of photos mixed with patterns of Lego bricks. Sort of like fancy photo frames. I've made a number of useful items that have some design I consider art. For example, napkin holders and (...) (23 years ago, 17-Feb-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Is Lego Art, or what?

(...) Some things...,yeah, kinda art "for fun" more than "fine art" in my case... A lot of stuff I build is stuff designed only to appeal to me -- just my mind wandering -- but some stuff is designed to (hopefully) appeal to others, and gets (...)   Re: Is Lego Art, or what?

Re: Is Lego Art, or what?

(...) Not really. I build things because I like to. If other people think they're art, then I'll be flattered. :^) (...) In a matter of speaking. I try to use my artistic skill to build the things I do, but I don't build them as artworks. But I (...) (23 years ago, 17-Feb-01, to lugnet.general)
