  wWITP (weekly What Is This Part)
 
I found two of these in a bag of older parts. One in blue, one in red. They look like a 2 x 2 brick, but they have rotating pins on two opposite sides. Each of these pins has two fingers and can connect with some of the parts such as the flexible (...) (24 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) I don't know the name or part number (assuming the part actually has a number) but it was used as the main piece for the torso of Maxifigs in the late 70s, early 80s. The 2 pins are used to attach the arms of the figs and the hole on top is (...) (24 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) Yep. You just saved one of the heads from going out with the trash. It didn't say Lego on it, so I assumed that it was some goofy Mega Blocks part. (...) I'm glad I saved a Lego piece from ABS oblivion ;-) I checked PartsRef. To build the arms, use a combination of #3612 and 412. The last part on the end (the wrist - I guess) is part #3613. The actual hand looks like #30082, but instead of a (...) (24 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) Not yet (but see below). The piece you're referring to is one of the "bendy-arm" pieces ("(URL) Specifically, you're referring to the as-yet-uncoded part "Towball with Stud". (It's not listed at Tore's parts tracker nor is it listed in the (...) (24 years ago, 13-Dec-00, to lugnet.general)
