Why we build? Why we display?
Great thread. Zonker is right, it's important that you know WHY you want to do
something so that you get the most out of it. Mike wrote a great response
which I mostly snipped One short interjection...

Mike's right. In GMLTC which is numerically the (close to? I think PNLTC is
smaller but I'm not sure) largest train club at the mo, there are 4-6 regular
(to varying degrees) posters to Lugnet out of a good 15 members. Maybe another
2 lurkers and people who use the internet for other stuff. Half or almost half
still don't use the internet much at all, or never put together that there
might be something more out there than www.lego.com till they joined the club
and still are more interested in building than talking about it.
(I think if I had a 9-5 stay at home job I'd chatter less and build more, but
you can chat from anywhere...)
(which is why it's important that people always reference Lugnet when talking
to people that might be interested. It's a nexus and a better place to bring
people to than RTl. People should ALSO put Lugnet buttons on their web
pages...)
FUT .general as this is a general topic, I feel, but feel free to set them
back to somewhere else if what you're adding doesn't fit there.

| Regarding size of clubs. PNLTC has at least 18 active members, with several more in the wings providing encouragement and support. PNLTC uses a list serve which has 10-20 messages a day. Which may explain the lack of our posting to lugnet. (...) (24 years ago, 15-Aug-00, to lugnet.trains)

| TRAINS, TRAINS, TRAINS!!! Sorry - I just had to say that. I don't have a problem with having other displays, but that just isn't where much of my interest is. I would like to do a nice Star Wars display, like NELUG had, but I don't have time for (...) (24 years ago, 10-Aug-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)
