Well, I just bought the Sorcerer's Stone so I could see what all the hubbub • is
about and now I hear that LEGO is going to make 9 sets for a movie based on
this book!?  Okay, sounds like Castle, or Time Cruisers?  Better start • reading
the book so I know what to expect (and to be literary, of course).  Any
guesses what those 9 sets will be?  Will Todd have to add a Harry Potter sub-
theme to disscussion groups?  Will LEGO be picking up movie toy properties • for
inspiration from now on?  And WHY didn't they pick up Lord Of The Rings!?!
Aaron :o)

First off, Harry potter is about a billion times more popular among CHILDREN
than lord of the rings, so thats probably why its a more valuable license. But
the real issue to me is that being such a character driven book, its not
completely out of the question to have belville scale harry potter( pretty
unlikely I guess)  ok back to work; )

Are you saying that the Tolkien books are not enjoyed by children?  And
Tolkien stuff really fits in with the current and past Castle theme, too.  BTW
the upcoming movie should be popular with children, I am only lamenting the
unlikelyhood that LEGO would do another outside theme (in addition to HP and
SW).  There is no question of the value of HP here, I agree that it is a good
money bet.  It may be a character driven book, but LEGO revolves around
playsets.  In case you did not notice, when the new Harry Potter book came
out, the displays held a selection of Tolkien's works as well (LOTR did after
all influence the HP author).  In my area they have sold well, so I expect the
exposure to be high.  Granted when I grew up Tolkien was in a revival and
everyone read it, but here comes a big buget trilogy...

QUESTION:  What can we expect 9 Sorcerer's Stone sets to look like (what is
most likely)?  Being that I have not read the series yet (shame), I have no
idea what to expect, but it sounds like a cross between Time Cruisers and
Castle (yesno?).

(...) compared to Harry Potter yes that is exactly what Im saying. the language is more cumbersome, and Characters harder to relate to. (...) Im sure thats a major reason why NOT to do it, I would rather see more creative color schemes and elements, (...) (24 years ago, 20-Jul-00, to lugnet.general)
