Too subtle an analogy for my puny brain :-)

Ah, I was just joking, provocatively. There are plenty of Australian
right-wing conservatives. We whinge about them all the time here in Oz :-)

Technically it's not exactly an inferiority complex, so much as something
far more insidious - it's called "tall-poppy syndrome". If you're not
familiar with the term, it refers to the tendency for some people to try and
"cut-down" others' greatness or success (the "tall poppies") by criticising
or even ridiculing them. Australians display this tendency in spades; we're
generally quite resentful of anyone who stands out from the crowd. That, and
we're so rude on the Internet. Playing online games, I have met no group of
people so monumentally rude as my fellow countrymen. Sad things to say about
one's own country, but there you go.

Hehehe..... here's my chance to stay on-topic. Yeah, actually that's just
what LEGO Australia told you all..... in reality it has been spirited away
into a secret warehouse where it will be kept away from greedy collectors
who keep buying up all of Australia's Lego and selling it to Americans,
thereby depriving Australian children of classic sets, for personal monetary
profit..... CAPITALISTS!!! ;-)

| (...) Paul, do I detect a slippery slope argument here (or is that a weak analogy)? Just because you are Australian, doesn't mean that you are a leftist. The two can be mutually exclusive. You Australians have to stop having an inferiority complex. (...) (25 years ago, 27-Mar-00, to lugnet.general)
