Do you want the 293 files that make up the FAQ, or the ZIP file, or the HTML
I generated?  If I post the HTML, no FAQ writers can really benefit; I can't
post the ZIP file; I don't want to post 293 FAQ items, not even the 199 with
answeres, at the moment.

Perhaps you can help me by declaring your intentions.  Do you want to read
the FAQ as a consumer, or do you want to aid in its development?

I personally (huh huh :-) want to read the FAQ (huh-huh huh, he said -- oh
never mind) because FAQ's always contain lots of useful bits of information
that I didn't know and wouldn't have even thought to ask.

I will probably also start answering unanswered questions after I get a chance
to see what's missing. That is, if anyone ever gives me the chance. At this
rate, it's looking like I'll have to start answering the questions that have
already been answered just to give this newsgroup some real content. I'm not
angry, I'm just saying it looks like there are no FAQs to be had so we might as
well start from scratch.

Another possibility is for Todd to host the ZIP file, etc. on LUGNET in a
temporary location, at least until LUGNET's FAQ-generation scripts are in
place.

That would be great. So far, everything I've seen in this discussion group is
people talking about how to create a complex system to automate looking up
information (or something like that, I still haven't figured out what you're
all doing) and no actual FAQs. I haven't even seen many questions on this
newsgroup. I've been reading message after message trying to find out where the
actual FAQs are.

If someone will email me the data I'll put it on my own web page,
http://www.mrob.com  I'll commit 5 megabytes to it, that should be enough to
handle all three versions of the file.

I can't set up CGI scripts or anything like that, and I'm not going to be able
to update the files more than once a month or so, but at least people will be
able to read the answers. Isn't that what FAQs are supposed to be for?

(...) I'm not sure that I should post the HTML to the newsgroup; the HTML I generate is around 300 KB. And, it would look pretty ugly, reading an HTML document in a news reader. I've run it through Lynx; the resulting text is around 240 KB. And, (...) (25 years ago, 12-Jul-99, to lugnet.faq)
