| (...) SGML stands for "Standard Generalized Markup Language" and is sort of the parent language to HTML (SGML is really a meta-language). XML stands for "Extensible Markup Language" and is a modern spin-off of SGML with strong emerging Java and Perl (...) (26 years ago, 14-Jan-99, to lugnet.faq)
