This post makes referance to debates/arguments that are happening/have
happened over at the Brickfilms.com forums;
I've had a good nights sleep (in this instance the word "good" will mean
"poorly, on the sofa" because I was up so late) I wish to apologize.
The manner and tone in which I stated my objection re: the bricksWest
animation Competition "controversy".
It was wrong of me to approach this issue in the manner I did. I am well
known for having no qualms about stating my opinions openly. I often do so
quite aggressively too, I really should learn to take a walk before posting mad.
I retract, in entirety, any comments I made that have stated, or alluded to,
either Doug or Jared being "cheaters" or "illiterate". It was stupid of me
to make such statements. Especially considering I made no attempt to contact
them first to ask if they had contacted - or attempted to contact - Todd.
Fact is I respect Jared and Doug, even when not seeing eye to eye, which is
why while in debate with them on this issue (and while I was still quite
mad) I did not resort to personal attacks or childish name calling, Doug had
no such respect for me it seems, having done both. And that's fine. I do not
"fear" being unpopular, or even loathed. I may not like Doug much at the
moment, but I still respect him.
However, whether the animation "was already on the tape" or not when the
issue was brought to his attention is irrelevant, there was still plenty of
time to contact Doug, ask him to show the film, and that it not be eligible
in the voting. As"Blokwars" was. Doug's "let it go and see what happens"
attitude toward this is dishonest, and unfair.
I eagerly await Todd's opinion on if the claimed modifications to "Midnight
Ride" were significant enough to claim it being distinct enough to claim it
is "new" .... I believe the modifications of GC: redux altered the tone, and
even the theme to an extent enough to pass through the "loophole", but
that's just MHO, and I'm sure Doug sees favoritism on my part there is
nothing I can say to dissuade that opinion. As he appears to be "done" with me.
And I'm deeply sorry Todd, for my disregard for "netetiquite" on posting
your e-mail reply, the thought did not cross my mind.
Again, I apologize to Doug and Jared for any "disrepute" I implied, or
"calling your honor into question". And for spouting off before I had
checked all the facts. I will be recalling any statements I made to that
effect "all over" the net.
I will however close with this statement by stating, that during the course
of this "debate" aside from my alleged"slander" in my original post, I only
tried to argue the facts as I saw them (whether I was misinformed, or
ignorant of some information or not) and I did so without having to lower
myself to personal attacks, name-calling or flame-ridden retorts. As
aggressive as I was being, I was only interested in and answer and
explanation to my originally (poorly worded) question.
I am happy to see that this issue, while beginning heated, has quickly
become calmer, and more deliberate in it's purpose. This tells us allot
about maturity and wiliness to be community minded around here. I am proud
of that. Elsewhere this may have turned into a week long flamewar.
Thank you Doug, Jared, Todd and Jason
