Joe,

I've been to BrickFest several times.  I wouldn't take my 4 1/2 yr old son, mostly
because I know even though he loves LEGO, three days is too much for him.

Also, if you're busy keeping track of your son, you'll miss some of the other fun.
(and it will be totally up to you to track your son)

On the other hand, my 13 yr old nephew has been there for the last several years,
and had a great time.  He will be there this year.

I really wouldn't suggest it for anyone much under 10.

But that's just me...

Steve

My 4-year-old is very into LEGO, and has in the past spent most of a couple of
days studying layouts by the NILTC and neighboring clubs.  I'm planning to go to
BrickFest, so my question is: should I bring my 4-year-old?

I'm sure he'd enjoy looking at the layouts, but from reading the event schedule,
it sounds like a lot of stuff which would be interesting to me but boring to him
(talks from LEGO bigwigs, building competitions he can't participate in, etc.).
I haven't been to BrickFest before, but I gather that it's really geared towards
ALEs – the schedule even mentions a special session for enthusiasts aged 12-17,
which rather implies that participants under 12 aren't expected.

Should I leave my son at home?  Bring him just to the Sunday general admission?
Or give him the full weekend?

Many thanks,¬
– Joe

(...) Thanks, this is good feedback. Now I have to see if I can talk my brother into keeping Kevin while I go to the events on Friday and Saturday... Best, – Joe (19 years ago, 14-Jul-05, to lugnet.events.brickfest, FTX)
