Just a reminder that the Ontario Brick Builders (k, just me) will be displaying
the Classic Space layout at the Boats, Models and Train show at the Hamilton
Steam Museum tomorrow and Sunday.  The public hours for both days are from 11
a.m. to 4 p.m..

Address--

900 Woodward Ave
Hamilton, ON
L8H 7N2

This is a free event for the public, so if you want to spend time checking out
the craftsmanship of old steam engines built 150(ish) years ago, or want to take
a ride on a miniature train, or just want to hang with me for a while, come on
down!

I am planning on live streaming the event around 1 p.m.  Check my facebook feed!

Hope to see you there!

This is the one I've been personally trying to get into for a few years now.

Not just because it's in my own 'back yard', but this place is one of my
favourite places to visit--

The Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology National Historic Site

<https://www.hamilton.ca/attractions/hamilton-civic-museums/hamilton-museum-steam-technology-national-historic-site>

Sandy and I took Josh a few years back for the Boats, Models and Trains event---

<https://www.hamilton.ca/attractions/events-calendar/boats-models-and-trains?view=0>

and it was a blast.  They have a relatively large outdoor permanent train
layout.  I don't know the scale, but you can ride the train cars--I think its 8
inches or something.

They also have a raised train track layout at the same scale, on which a
'scratch built' functioning steam engine will pull a few people around--that was
awesome!

The model boat builders set up a temporary pond, and kids can RC boat race and
stuff.

The Meccano guys have been there in the past, and their creations are pretty
great.

But the tour of the pump house...

I was like Iain with his trains...

<https://museumshamilton.com/#/pano/hamilton-civic-engine-deck-controls>

And, also knowing the history of Hamilton a bit, and knowing the role this pump
house played 150ish years ago...

K, enough gushing about the location.

So I'm bringing the CSL to their Boats, Models and Train event--it's 2 days--the
25 and 26th of May.  Public hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.  You can do
the other stuff as well, and get a tour of the pump house.

I'm going to try it out this year with the layout, mostly because we don't have
alotta 'lead time' to get others signed up for a bigger display, but I really
hope this one is successful, not only so we can have a bigger turnout next year,
but the person I'm working with would love to see basically an 'all lego' event
in 2020 that they can market it and it'd just be us :)

Now that would be awesome!

Anyway, I'm excited, and if you are interested in displaying on May 25/26th, let
me know and I can check with the organizer--I'd love to see you.  Our display
will be inside the building, which gets locked up at night with security and all
that.

As an aside, I didn't want to do more than 4-5 shows a year when I started
getting back into it, and I'm already at 4 now--2 done, 2 confirmed for May. I
did these shows to see how the CSL can be packed and how quickly it can be set
up.

I'm tentative for the Greater Toronto Train Show in October, so that's 5. We'll
see what else we can do.  Leaping back into this, I already have around the same
number of shows this year that we used to do back in the day.

I'm going to go all rtlT 'old school' on this one.

I contacted the organisers at the Greater Toronto Train Show and they would like
to have us at their train show October 5 and 6th in Brampton, Ontario.

Now I'm ONLY going to do this show if I get some people committed to bringing
*something* for displaying.  I will be bringing the CSL, so we already have a 5
by 7.5 spot filled.

I'm thinking about a 10 x 20 foot display area, set up all old school with
tables around the perimeter and us all in the middle, having a grand old time.

So if you have anything that you want to display--doesn't have to be trains or
space,--ANYTHING LEGO would be fantastic--and you can attend for the weekend,
let me know.

The web page for the show is here--

<https://www.torontotrainshow.com/>

Details--

SHOW LOCATION
Brampton Fairgrounds

12942 Heart Lake Road, Brampton ON

SHOW HOURS
SAT - OCTOBER 5, 2019

10:00AM To 4:00PM

SUN - OCTOBER 6, 2019

10:00 AM To 4:00 PM

50,000 Square Feet Of Model Trains Including A New Third Building!
Operating Layouts
New & Used Items For Sale
Play Area For The Kids
Free Parking & Fully Accessible Building
ATM & Food On Site

The good bit is that if we're exhibitors, we get 'food credit vouchers' for the
on-site food vendors.  I don't know what they are, so there may be a Wendy's run
in there at some point, but hey, free lunch for 2 days.

I'll need to know soon--like at or before the lego dinner in May.  I'd like some
confirmation so I know what I have to arrange.  If 3-4 people at minimum sign
up, I'll just ask for a 10x10 area--that'll suffice.  However, if we get the
attendance that we used to get 'back in the day', I'll ask for a 10x20 foot
area.

We've done it in the past and always had a great time.  Forward to all your
friends (those that don't check LUGNET) and let me know

Thanks

Dave K

Wow--2 shows scheduled!

So we have the '80's Toy Expo on April 7th, 2019

<https://www.ontariocollectorscon.com/80s-toy-expo-2019-is-april-7th-in-mississauga-ontario/>

(which I asked for more tables for others to display their stuff :) )

and now we are scheduled to appear at the Ancaster Collectorfest on May 5, 2019

<http://www.collectorshows.ca/Shows/TOY_2019-05-05.php>

I'm looking forward to both, and I love the idea of just doing shows :) (1)

If you have the time, stop on by--these shows have pretty inexpensive admission
fees, and I'll be there talking myself hoarse with the public...

Dave K

1 - So if you have a show at which the OBB CSL would be appropriate, please drop
me a line--I'm looking to do more shows!

I've now signed up the OBB CSL for the '80's Toy Expo on April 7th, 2019

<https://www.ontariocollectorscon.com/80s-toy-expo-2019-is-april-7th-in-mississauga-ontario/>

It's at the same hotel convention room as the last show--

6750 Mississauga Road, Mississauga, Ontario

I've also requested an additional 'display table' so others can display their
stuff.  I've had a few people voice interest in bringing something for display.

I don't know how well this'll go over, but I'm going to try it and see what
happens :)

I'm also hoping that I'll have at least a bit of time to take some good pictures
and video of the layout this time--I didn't have any time last show for this.

Hope to see you there!
