I went and checked some of my walls, and it does indeed seem that
around 1996 or 1997 the "feel" of the walls' outer surface changes.
But it's subtler than I would have expected--less gloss, more matte,
but I hadn't figured it was a conscious decision, rather an artefact
of some other change (plastic mixture, speed of molding, etc.)--but
I actually like the less shiny walls.
Still no parts with mold sag, though, save a little bit on the large
panel parts (UFO saucers etc).
