The main Giftshop at LEGOLAND, CA has a few display cases with dioramas,
featuring the Ninja line and the Adventurers. They really do attract a lot
of attention, but unfortunately none of the product behind the glass is
available anymore! LEGO does not seem to put a priority on showing pride in
the actual model of the items for sale to wow the buying masses. If they
could just update these to show off current product (a nice touch to the
park would be a kind of "Past Product Showcase Museum") then maybe kids and
parents would get a little more excited and buy LEGO! Frankly, I like the
new sets, but compared to sets from the 1980s and 1990s they are rather
emabarssing piles of brick. Could it be that the reason we don't see many
official dioramas is because TLC knows they could do better? I think they
certainly could. Even more frustrating is that the best stuff from LEGO
right now only comes from Shop At Home, so my Wal-Mart shopping neighbors
never see the good stuff that TLC has to offer. LEGO is moving back toward
some good product, but $60 for a Jack Stone set is absolutely yucky. That
is some funky weird product. I'm sure that I am not the only one who would
like to see a little more effort from TLC, and more proud display of product
too.
Sorry for the rant,
