See if this makes sense. One of the options in Ember is to set the JPEG compression ratio. If you start with the JPEG image (suppose it's at 70%), then rotate it, then save it with a ratio of 100% (no compression), would that end up with a picture (...) (27 years ago, 22-Oct-99, to lugnet.db.scans)

That sounds like a good idea BUT, When you start with a JPEG, do something (even lossless rotation), and recompress as JPEG you exaggerate the JPEG artifacts. This is why it's important for the original scanner to rotate/crop/size the images BEFORE (...) (27 years ago, 22-Oct-99, to lugnet.db.scans)

Kevin, Have you ever thought about just rotating the scans you have? I use a Windows shareware program called Firehand Ember that allows you to rotate an image (GIF, JPG, BMP and others)with no noticeable image quality loss (amount other things). It (...) [FUT: lugnet.db.scans] (...) I've also had problems with some images- they're recognised as JPEGs by all my applications but using some old weird Perl [1] code to generate image sizes gives an error. My examples are 6893-01.jpg, and 1499-01.jpg, (...) (27 years ago, 24-Sep-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.db.scans)

If anyone is interested, I have a 600dpi scan of the sail for the Sea Serpent. The file is 2.49MB JPG, but shows all details including the cloth texture. I have printed it on dull photo paper, and it looks pretty good. If anyone has access to a (...) (27 years ago, 21-Sep-99, to lugnet.db.scans)

(...) This is not QUITE the same thing... but LUGNET's engine knows which sets have instruction scans and which don't. There's a background job there that keeps things up to date as scans get added, I think. So if you go in through LUGNET you can (...) (27 years ago, 18-Sep-99, to lugnet.db.scans)

I just went to (URL) for the first time today ... very impressed. MUCH better than the old site Kevin. Good Job. Though I have a comment. Would it be possible to have scans of all of the covers of all of the sets? Not necessarily having the scans of (...) (27 years ago, 18-Sep-99, to lugnet.db.scans)

Anytime I see an old/rare Lego set for sale on Ebay and the instructions are not available on brickshelf, I send an e-mail to the seller (or the buyer) asking for scans of the instructions. Most are happy to comply. (27 years ago, 6-Sep-99, to lugnet.db.scans)

Woohoo! First to Post! ;) I just uploaded some items to brickshelf.com, and I wanted to know what people thought of my scanning technique. The four most recent additions are mine. The three sets were scanned in at either 75(most likely) or 100 dpi, (...) (27 years ago, 1-Sep-99, to lugnet.db.scans)
