Since no one has responded to notes posted in the Lugnet.Admin.General about
a discussion group for inventories, I'll throw this out here too.

I was wondering what information people really want in these inventories.
Personally, I tend to want as much information as possible.  I put the
packaging information (what was in the display tray, what was loose, what
items were bagged together), as well as the "serial number" off the front of
the instructions and any identifying numbers off of sticker sheets or the
theme posters of some of the late 90's sets (which I assume are packed
consistently with their sets).

Looking through Peeron, some inventories have this level of detail, and some
don't.  Is the goal to eventually have all inventories contain the maximum
level of detail, or do we not care as long as the inventory contains all the
pieces necessary to build the main model?  I'd like to know how other people
feel about this.

I speak solely as a user. I usually am cruising Peeron to determine "what
set do I need to buy to get mass quantities of this part because the
Brickbay price is too high". So all I really care about is the parts,
quantities, and colors. The bag info is helpful too when I go to part out
the set, but not THAT helpful. Once I open the first set box I am going to
know what bag to go for in the rare case that I am not rendering the whole
set at the same time.

The instruction and sticker serial numbers are less interesting to me,
instructions get binned and stickers put in a slush pile of "better do
something with these some day", except in rare cases (the telekoms, the Tine
Dairys of the world, both of which were bought in part for their torso
stickers for a particular MTW figure pack)

That said I would say that if you enjoy doing it to a higher level great,
but I would not want to see people holding back because they didn't have all
the detail you do.

(...) That's actually the reason we made it - not that brickbay was too high - but since we (dan and i) rarely buy pieces separately - since then we wouldn't have the whole set that goes with them - we find which set has the piece we want in mass (...) (23 years ago, 4-Aug-01, to lugnet.db.inv)

Hi all, First off, I'd like to thank Dan for setting up such a great resource. I started off as solely a user of peeron also. Basically I wanted a way to determine exactly how many of any specific piece I had, based on all the sets in my collection. (...) (23 years ago, 4-Aug-01, to lugnet.db.inv, lugnet.general)
