I'd like to echo the above sentiments. Most of us are unlikely to find MISB
sets from 1980, but it would still be nice to have an inventory. . .and know
that the inventory was not as reliable as one from an MISB set. (For example,
I bought a huge number of old Space and Town sets at a garage sale this weekend
and I doubt the most of them are inventoried, but the parts were mixed
together, so any inventories I were to do of them would be "from
instructions".) Listing the source of the inventory would also be a way for
people to judge whether or not they should verify an inventory. I would
recommend categories of: MISB or equivalent, catalog or box*, instructions, and
other.
And, a side note, I would like the Admins to consider changing the charter of
.db.inv to allow discussion. There really isn't any other place that's
appropriate for discussion of inventories in general (sometimes .db.brictionry.
. .), and it would be confusing to invent a new newsgroup for that purpose.

*This category would apply to sets like Service Packs, whose inventories are
given in catalogs, and sets like those Basic sets that list their contents on
the packaging.
