Probably for the same reasons they aren’t still producing the old colors
alongside the new. Just because Jake managed to get a small batch through
the system doesn’t mean the same button can be pushed again and again at the
same costs. Since we don’t know the details of the process I think it’s
pretty pointless speculating about it. The fact that we were told this was a
one-time shot indicates there is probably some sort of financial/logistical
constraint against repeating it. As Larry mentioned however, if the packs
had sold out much quicker than expected, perhaps the business equation for
doing this would favorably change.
BTW the packs are still available in North America. In fact I just ordered a
few.

Dear Spemcer,
I have to disagree with your assumptions. Can you prove they do not run both
grey and blay? You do know nothing about this, as you said. When I was in
Billund a few month ago (september) they did. And when Jan Beyer (kind of our
“Jake”) has been last time within the factory they did. He told us just a few
days ago about that fact.
Actually LEGO is right now - in this very second - running production runs in
old system grey! They could switch back so easy if they only wanted. Right
now they run both and that means they could stop the production of blay as
easy as the production of System grey. That is a fact. Ask Jan who works in
Billund if there is still a huge production run of old grey if you do not
believe me.

I believe you. Just as I believe that TLC can get Maersk Blue if they so
desire.
That said, what you, and other people who believe that TLC can ‘snap their
fingers’ and go back to ‘old gray’ haven’t stated, or probably even know, is the
production costs of returning to ‘old gray’. If, as Jake stated, getting one
colour--Maersk blue for example, is cost prohibitive, than perhaps the new
‘bley’ is less expensive to produce than old gray.
The thing is, we, as non TLC executives and employees, don’t know! We just
don’t! And from your posts, you are making many assumptions about what TLC can
and cannot do!
So that’s basically my real problem--we, as non executives of a multi billion
dollar industry, presume to know what’s best for TLC.
We call that in America--the tail wagging the dog.
Until you have some concrete proof that the switch to bley is fiscally wrong for
TLC, you cannot presume that it’s the ‘worst decision they ever made’.
Until you have some concrete proof that switching back to old grey will be less
expensive than staying with the new bley, you cannot presume that they can, or
should, switch back.
Until you have some concrete proof that you know how to run a multi billion and
multi national corporation, you cannot presume to know what’s best for TLC
and until you have spoken with, and have the vote of all AFOL’s, you cannot
presume to speak for them.
