<CBN News>
Two mixed companies from the Blank Shields mercenary troop along with
various supplies and equipment left Port Anders this morning with little
fanfare. The main dock of the sleepy port town has been roped off for the
last week as soldiers and sailors have been ferrying supplies to the two
merchantmen at anchor just offshore.
Leaving his co-commander in charge of the proceedings, Lieutenant Michael
consented to answer a few of our questions.
<CBNN>Can you comment on the makeup of the troops heading to the Isle?
<LM>Yes. We are sending two full companies, veterans who are trained in at
least two disciplines each. All 50 soldiers in the task force are trained
as infantry, with about a dozen also experienced scouts. The remainder are
trained as either archers or cavalry as their secondary role.
<CBNN>Cavalry? Don't you think that's a bit inappropriate for an island?
<LM>Our initial scouting reports indicate that the island is plenty large
enough for horses to be very useful, and there is lots of greenery around.
<CBNN>You've scouted out the island? Does that mean the Blank Shields
already have men there?
<LM>Not as such, no. But we do have a black dragon working for us, as you
may recall...Before you ask, Fred has been to the Island, but only to scout
the potential landing sites, and has since returned. At this point, he
isn't slated to return to the island, but will be rejoining our companies
under Lt. Martin in the Galatrian campaign.
<CBNN>So have you picked your site then?
<LM>Well, nothing is set in stone until we get there and can look at the
situation in depth, but the mist has cleared from a fairly promising
shoreline in the west. There's an excellent natural bay, as well as several
good-sized natural coves and beaches. There's fairly good odds we'll be
heading there for our initial presence.
<CBNN>Will your mysterious employer be accompanying you?
<LM> I'm not at liberty to say. We have been working closely with their
representatives throughout the planning, and will continue to do so, however.
<CBNN>When are you expecting to make landfall?
<LM>Well from the reports so far, the Island is around a week's travel with
good winds. However, we've got a mostly coastal route plotted to minimize
the storm risk, and these merchantmen are designed more for their cargo
space than for speed. I'm anticipating that we'll be in sight of the island
in about three weeks.
I'm afraid I don't have time for more questions right now - if you'll excuse
me, I have to oversee the transfer of the horses to the _Duran's Blessing_.

Pictures of the _Duran's Blessing_ and her sister ship will exist when I get
our digital camera back from on loan. I was going to wait to post until I
had pics, but I wanted to get underway. :)
thanks,
James

| (...) I know the feeling :) I can't wait to see the ships - are they just carrier ships, or are they equipped to handle Sea-to-Sea combat if need be? It would be a shame if they couldn't hold their own on the high waters ... The CNN-like format of (...) (23 years ago, 8-Nov-01, to lugnet.castle.org.cw)
