Back when I was about 12-14, I was highly into the castle stuff.

I still like castle (and read this group), but I primarily like town stuff
these days.  In my current LEGO city, only about 15% is castle (actually
just one big castle) and 85% town (well, city).

Strangely enough, when I was about 8-12, I was more into technic.

So, I went technic->castle->town.

Has anyone else had subject area shifts like this?

Yep. I was an all-around lego lover at ages 5-12, no favorite theme. But I
felt I should migrate to technic after 12 for some reason... we had a lego-
logo class using dacta stuff and I loved it. So after one small techie set I
bought a really big plane (number eludes me, I don't really care) and, well,
what can I say - didn't hit it off...
I liked trains, town and Castle pretty equally till not long ago, with trains
a bit more than the rest... but I've never built a train MOC in my life, nor
can I ever get close to the amazing train creations some people do.

Well, castle is my Big Thing now and I don't mind if it stays that way, but I
still hope to have some decent town & train MOCs someday.
