This question seems to be key. What kind of Lego elements will generate the
most long-term demand, in terms of the number of elements consumed?
I don't think new parts, parts in odd colors (such as pink), or rare parts that
you need a hundred or so of will be offered by Lego Direct.
I think we can probably break it down by themes (as someone else in this
general discussion has mentioned). The point would be to find which elements in
each theme will produce demand in the thousands of units, over a sustained
period of time.
I am not a train or town expert, but I'd guess that windows might fit into this
category.
Being a castle nut, I do know I would order grey and dark grey bricks by the
thousand, and I think a lot of other people would too. This would probably be
the greatest single contribution of Lego Direct to the castle community,
allowing us to build really really big castles without a ton of wall elements
and BURPS.
I would also order grey and black plates in units of a thousand. Perhaps grey
arches, tree pieces (3x3 brown corners, 1x5x4 brown half-arches, green tree
leaves), 2x2 and 1x1 cylinders as well, in units of a thousand.
But I seem to be agreeing with most people here, with these choices.

| I think BURPS would work well. I think they would work well for train clubs (raised bases, mountains, tunnels), castle groups (ditto), and town folks (again mountains and tunnels). I hope these are indeed among the pieces available for ordering. I (...) (25 years ago, 29-Feb-00, to lugnet.castle)
