These are three different versions of medieval handgunners I have made. There is a tendancy to think of knights and castles not co-existing with gunpowder, or at most early cannon, but in fact early “handgonnes” (append numerous other medieval names as you wish) were on the battlefield in the latter half of the 14th century.

Absolutely! It adds much more colour to the medieval battlefield... and a misfiring gun is so much more entertaining than a misfiring bow!

Looking for something not so oversize, I used a light-sabre handle. The chrome is obnoxiously bright, so I spray-painted it black. Inasmuch as medieval cannon and some guns used reinforcing bands, it worked out rather well.

These look great! I think the next time my medieval brikwars army has an outing, they’ll have a few of these along - they’ll complement the Pikes of Doom nicely.

This is closer to what handgonnes looked like around 1450, with a shaped stock, though they would use a serpentine and not a flintlock. They were fairly short-barreled and short-stocked, so the stock could be cut down. This has a nice musketoon look appropriate for the Pirates period.

I’m not so rapt in these. I thought originally that it was because you’d - shock, horror - modified a musket... but I’m partial to the odd bit of modification myself, and it is a nice shape.

I think I just don’t like the colour contrast between the brown and the black... I wonder if grey (light or dark) would look better? Or maybe just using a black musket instead of a brown?

Cheers
