I was planning on building 4 towers of this design to be used as the
"corner" towers for the town (the wall section connect to the tower to form
a 90 degree angle). I was also planning on making towers of a different
design to be used alonf the walls, with the wall section connecting on
oposite sides of the tower, forming a somewhat straight line.
I'm just guessing at what will be needed, as we don't have a plan to go by,
which is fine with me. That's why it is all modular, so we can make
adjustments as needed.
I would also prefer that the tower protruded more in front of the walls, but
I could not get it to work this way. The problem lies with the stairs and
the placing of the doors. I tried to make the stairs as realistic as
possible, in that they aren't very steep (2 plates) and minifigs will
actually fit up them. Unfortunately, this takes up alot of space in the
tower and dictates that the doors to the top of the wall be placed where
they are.
There are two possible solutions. One is to simply make the tower bigger.
I thought about this and decided against it because the tower is currently
the standard 16 x 16 size that we are using in town planning. Also, I think
this size is good in proportion to the wall. Any bigger just wouldn't look
right.
Two would be to use steeper stairs of 1 brick height per stair. This would
make the stairs take up less room and leave more flexibility with the
interior of the tower. I personally don't have a problem doing this if it
is deemed acceptable. I think one brick height looks a little steep in
comparison to a minifig, but i think it's actually less then lego uses in
their stairs.
As for a gatehouse, I do plan on making one of those. I've never made one,
so if anyone has links to any suggestions or ideas, or to other good mocs,
send them my way for inspiration! :)
