I tried Todd’s normals suggestion and it worked pretty well. I needed some texture anyway.

Miguel also sent me the latest file (I see he’s posted it as well) so perhaps on Monday or Tuesday I can finish up this scene. I’m really deliberating whether to display it or not...so far this has been an almost “secret” project. :)

Thanks for the help, all. In future when I have this problem I’ll remember this! (and maybe I’ll develop my own color library, reflection-less)
