Re: Are the illustrations for the modeler's book series created with Ldraw compatible software?

(...) I don't think they used LDraw -- unless LGEO has textures mapped on sloped parts. Also, the tiles are grooved, LDraw's tiles weren't grooved in 1999. Steve (22 years ago, 13-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: Are the illustrations for the modeler's book series created with Ldraw compatible software?

I must say that now I have the book in hand, the images are deffinately rendered. You can, like you said, cleary make that out from the shadows. I doubt though the used LDraw, for the book I have (Animals) dates back to 1999. One other possibility (...) (22 years ago, 12-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: Level B Simplification - LDraw Boxer

(...) Clever idea. I don't know if you are interest by optimization. I suppose a brick is (xmin,xmax,ymin,ymax...min,zmax). I guess the most efficient data structure is octree. Octrees can be implmented as binary trees. On the first level you sort (...) (22 years ago, 12-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: Level B Simplification - LDraw Boxer

(...) Thank you. Even if I were the only lugnut to benefit from the LDBoxer project, I'd still find it worth the effort. (...) Not the way you expect, I can tell! :o) I've made a pile of .nfo files to be copied into the Parts\B directory. For (...) (22 years ago, 12-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

  Re: Fog yourself

(...) You are right off course. But the goal was to understand POV-Ray's fog. As I wrote in my PS: if you want real looking fog also include atmospheric media. (...) Thanx! Jeroen (22 years ago, 12-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: Level B Simplification - LDraw Boxer

(...) Just so you don't interpret the paucity of responses to indicate a lack of interest, let me say for the record that this sounds like a fantastic utility! I haven't had time to download and install it yet, but I will try to do so when I get (...) (22 years ago, 12-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: Are the illustrations for the modeler's book series created with Ldraw compatible software?

(...) Hi Tim, One tell-tale sign is that the shadows on the ballerina are classic ray-traced shadows with sharp edges. Most 3D artists would actually not choose raytracing as their first option because a) it takes a lot more time than other shading (...) (22 years ago, 12-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

  Re: Fog yourself

I'm no expert so take my advice at face value, which = zero. I was taking a look at your ground fog renders and noticed something that I felt was odd. I would figure that if you were in a fog environment, then you would get no shadows or very faint (...) (22 years ago, 12-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

  Fog yourself

Hi all, After some e-mails with Albert-Jan van Ree, in which he tried to figure out fog, I did some experimenting. The effect Albert-Jan was after (and actually me too) was making the background foggier than the foreground. I have tried it before (...) (22 years ago, 12-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: Are the illustrations for the modeler's book series created with Ldraw compatible software?

Hi Miguel - Hmm... I took a look at the additional images they provide, and I can't see any tell-tale parts that would give it away. So, I don't know, but it would be funny if they did :-) -Tim (...) (22 years ago, 12-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)
