Hey Y'all:

If you render the element 4869.dat with L3PAO quality level 3, as far as I
can see you get the logo reversed.  Other elements render fine. See:

This is due to a mirror matrix being used somewhere in the part.  The final
matrix that represents that stud is mirrored (meaning either 1 or 3 of the
axes are flipped).  You should get the same problem if you render both of
the classic space wing pieces.  One of them will have correct logos, the
other won't, because one of the files is just a reference to the other with
a mirror matrix applied.

According to a post Lars made not too long ago about L3P, this is inherent
in the way that L3P generates the POV file; the only way to detect that a
stud has been mirrored is to "flatten" out the entire file, and keep track
of mirroring along the way.  L3P uses the matrix transformation support
built into the POV file format to reproduce the same matrix transformations
from the LDraw files, so he has no way to detect the mirroring.

(...) Considering the usefulness of modeling mirrored parts this way (one file just references the other file) (it saves time and bytes), I'd say this is a problem that needs resolution in software. I *think* it could addressed with a POV-Ray macro, (...) (22 years ago, 6-Sep-02, to lugnet.cad.ray)
