  Part Authoring
 
Has anyone tried to make new parts with MLCAD? I would like to learn how to do them and then contribute to the LDraw library. I am assuming right now that it can only be done with Notepad and saved then viewed with MLCAD, but I don't know. I am (...) (25 years ago, 27-Nov-99, to lugnet.cad.mlcad)

(...) thats one way.. notepad yes. mostly thats 50% of what I use (or ldraw editor from LDAO) other ways to do parts, is "draw" sections in LDD, put together in LEDIT, inline, and do the rest with editor (quad's,tri's and such) then once part is (...) (...) Right, and LDLite has a mode to make this work better, you can get it to "poll" for changes in the data so you don't even have to explicitly ask for a redraw. However, this usually hangs my system for some reason. No doubt it's me... (25 years ago, 30-Nov-99, to lugnet.cad.mlcad)

(...) I mainly use the LDAO editor for authoring. I find the highlight-CTRL-drag extrememly useful for copying coordinates from one line to another. The dynamic update of the LDLite rendering is invaluable, but on occasions have used MLCad due to (...) (25 years ago, 1-Dec-99, to lugnet.cad.mlcad)

(...) I don't think you're missing anything obvious. The LDAO editors look at two sections in ldraw.ini for which views to include in that dropdown, [Views] and [View Moves]. A view has to be defined in both sections. [Views] gives the viewing angle (...) (25 years ago, 1-Dec-99, to lugnet.cad.mlcad)
