Yes. Perhaps LDraw.org can be seen as an organization that seeks to assist the
public in designing and documenting physical and virtual constructions through
the use of its [freeware] computer-aided design tools.

That's how I'd like to see the site/group.

The other question that needs to be asked is, Would this thing ever make a
profit if sold? Probably not a significant one, if any. In which case, any
surplus [profit] should be used to cover the costs of banners, materials, etc.

The way we're going to market it, no.  After CDs are sold, we could be
dealing with about $8000 if figured for 1000 CDs, $2/pc cost, sold for
$10 US.  This would be more than enough money to put on .datFest IMO.
But the question is in the timeframe of the income.

Another question is, will we really sell 1000 CDs online, including
Jessimans' order of 50?  (if we are indeed selling them and not giving
them away).  I see a hard time selling 1000 copies online, unless we
do take advantage of Kidvention to advertise sale (even though it will
be much delayed).  I plan on doing that.  Even with that, we probably
won't sell 1000 copies.

2) if LDraw.org was non-profit then it wouldn't matter as much either way,
unless there was a huge of amount of cash/money that was not used for the
furtherance of its Purpose. Does anyone actually see that happening?

I don't believe we'll be dealing with more cash than we'll need for
future events.  Then again, that should be figured out when we budget
out future things the group does.  But I wouldn't believe so.

Regarding this last issue, IMO, don't rush it at the expense of the superior
choice. Many software companies attend shows ever year with barely-beta-ware
for the showroom floor.. everyone understands late software.

Ok.  As someone mentioned (either here or on ICQ) to me, this gives
the time to make the CD better.  I plan on finishing the CD to have a
master soon, but that doesn't mean more can be added to it while we
wait to be able to distribute them.

Plus, if you ever have to pass LDraw onto someone else, the easier it is to
take care of, the easier it is to pass, and the longer it should last. Tim,
you yourself have remarked on how much work it is... you're better off house-
breaking the puppy before you try and give it away.

Yep.

(...) say (...) Definitely a good idea. Also, if you can, try getting a second pro bono opinion. Remember, lawyers do work in teams and consult each other regularly for finer points and other considerations and legal precedents (can you say (...)
