Yes, professional advice would certainly be a good idea.

IMHO, filing for tax exemption would be a good idea, even if it means putting
the CDs on hold for a while (not to mention it means there would be more time
to make them better). Saving the money now would certainly be a Good Thing,
especially since the org is just starting out financially and will need the
cash for future events.
