(...) For what it's worth, I don't think most people are aware that OpenGL can be used to render images at arbitrary resolutions. Most video cards don't support rendering directly above 2048x2048. I'm working on a feature in LDView where it will automatically check the parts tracker for unofficial parts when it encounters a file that it can't find. I can definitely see where you're coming from, and there's certainly a danger that having a viewer transparently support unofficial parts will encourage their use without being included inside the MPD file.
