How big is your VEC dir? —Jeremy H. Sproat
...Mine is 79 Mb in size after 9902 parts update. For speed, I don't want to go GIF or JPEG, and I'm not too crazy about reducing the rendering size for the VEC. Question #1: Will Image Magick convert 24-bit BMPs to 8-bit? Question #2: Has anyone (...) (26 years ago, 1-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

(...) Yes, doing this automatically is one of the items on the request list for LDAO. (...) I've done this. It is *much* slower. 3x or worse. I'm thinking it was much worse, but I don't remember now. Steve (26 years ago, 1-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: How big is your VEC dir? —Patrick Sayre-Little
It's got nothing to do with LDAO, but it is currently less than 1 MB. Of course, then you have to print it out. Or keep another program open and use "find" a lot. (26 years ago, 3-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: How big is your VEC dir? —Bram Lambrecht
Since I know what just about every peice is named in LDraw, I find ONYX's part search program much more useful than the VEC, so I've deleted my VEC dir (sorry Steve - I still use the other useful functions of LDAO, though) --Bram Bram Lambrecht / o (...)      How big is my what!? Oh.... Right now, mine is 14 mb. Yep, 14,722,692. But I have it rendered at 50% *and* I used a batch conversion to reduce the LDLite output to 8 bits.(1) Sure it took a while, but the savings were significant. If I remember (...)          Re: How big is your VEC dir? —Jeremy H. Sproat
(...) I believe it's actually on Gyug's list to do, but he doesn't yet have the routines to reduce a 24-bit image before saving as an 8-bit bmp. Cheers, - jsproat (26 years ago, 2-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: How big is your VEC dir? —Paul Gyugyi
Hmmm. A 6.4 GB drive is $124 at Fry's today, for a cost of roughly $0.01 USD per 0.5 MB. If we assume this option saves 22 MB for each of the 500 LDLite users, the net savings to the entire world will amount to $220, which is probably worth an hour (...)         Re: How big is your VEC dir? —Mike Stanley
(...) Never noticed any slowdown. I throw my LDraw folder around so much that I always convert my VEC dir to gif to save time on the transfer. (26 years ago, 4-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: How big is your VEC dir? —Jeff Stembel
(...) What the heck ya got in there, man?? As of the latest update, mine is ~8 Mb, rendered in LDraw at 50%. Did you use LDLite to render the VEC? That's more than my entire LDraw directory! :) Jeff - Who can't believe anyone can actually get 79 Mb (...) (26 years ago, 20-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: How big is your VEC dir? —Jeremy H. Sproat
(...) Heck, yeah! I gotta have that shading, man! :-, I'm rendering at 100%, too. I tried 50% and 75% for a while, but I lost too much detail to be comfortable with it. Cheers, - jsproat (26 years ago, 20-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: How big is your VEC dir? —Jeff Stembel
(...) Mb, (...) So how did you do it? I'm clueless when it comes to any interaction between LDLite and LDAO. ;) (26 years ago, 21-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: How big is your VEC dir? —Jeremy H. Sproat
(...) Go directly into LDLite, and make sure the Options -> Shading menu item is checked. This setting will be remembered, so the VEC images generated *should* have shading. Cheers, - jsproat (26 years ago, 21-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: How big is your VEC dir? —Jeff Stembel
(...) Oops! I guess I should have specified what I meant: How did you get LDLite to generate the VEC Images? I didn't think there was an option for it. Jeff (26 years ago, 21-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: How big is your VEC dir? —Steve Bliss
(...) Just to provide a more-or-less final answer to this question, Image Magick includes mogrify.exe, which is designed to do mass file conversions. Using mogrify, I converted all the VEC images to BMP-RLE format. Which took the VEC down to 6.5MB. (...) (26 years ago, 25-May-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: How big is your VEC dir? —Leonardo Zide
(...) I've made LDLite save 8 bit bitmaps and sent the changes to Paul about 1 month ago but he didn't answer me. I wonder if he didn't get the message or if he just didn't like what I've done. :) Leonardo (26 years ago, 25-May-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)
