I'm just speaking for myself, but I think that this is because people would
rather see a site now with content than an professional-looking one later
that is easy to navigate. In other words, there are few reasons to give
over the James Jessiman memorial, since it does the job well.
While the JJM could certainly use more sprucing up, it's not lacking by way
of content and it's fairly easy to navigate anyhow. Plus (I don't think
I've ever thanked Terry for this) it doesn't use image maps; all the
navigation and cosmetic graphics load very very quickly.
Which isn't to say that you shouldn't persue the ldraw.org plan. When you
pull it off, I'm sure it'll be quite impressive -- and serve a need. I'm
just giving my reasons for not saying anything about it until now.

I, too, enjoy the current JJM, but I often have difficulty remembering the exact URL off the top of my head, and I tend to prefer fast-loading text- based hierarchical layouts over layouts that use a lot of images (even small ones).
