Well, the point isd that hugin.etc thinks it's name isn't ldraw.org,
but hugin.etc.. Then it returns that to the user. There are special
services available with some domain-registry-services, that give you
another layer in between which will insure that this doesn't happen.
However, I have a feeling that probably impacts the performance. (The
lugnet.com machine _knows_ that it's lugnet.com, and nothing else)

This isn't correct.  The lugnet.com machine and the Apache software it's
running can answer to anything that they're configured to answer to, without
impacting performance.  Currently, there is a mapping at pair.com (ISP)
which associates lugnet.com with the IP address 209.68.63.236 on a dedicated
machine.

fibblesnork.com & auczilla.com, currently hosted at digiweb.com (another
ISP), may at some point move to the same machine.  They would each get their
own IP address on the same machine then, and having all three (plus probably
also baseplate.com) in the same spot would save a few $$ per month in ISP
fees.  (Plus, Pair is more reliable than Digiweb in my experience.)

fibblesnork.com, auczilla.com, and baseplate.com currently reside as plain
metered accounts on shared machines.  lugnet.com resides on its own
dedicated machine.

Anyhow, properly configured machines can indeed host multiple domains
without any trouble and without the user seeing the underlying machinery.
Many ISP's make their livings selling accounts on machines configured this
way.
